Diabetes the American epidemic

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Endocrinologists are saying that obesity and diabetes is not only an American epidemic, but are claiming these diseases are at pandemic levels here in America!

On July 23, 2008, the American college of Endocrinology consensus statement admitted that “There are currently no approved pharmacologic treatments for pre-diabetes. The best available evidence for prevention of progression of pre-diabetes to diabetes is lifestyle modification. This has been convincingly demonstrated in multiple clinical trials, including the DPP, DPS, and Da Qing.”

“Currently, there are no pharmacologic therapies that have been approved by the FDA for the prevention of diabetes.”

“It is incumbent upon health care systems and health providers to develop lifestyle intervention programs that prevent diabetes, given the current basis of evidence. Many physicians in the U.S. are unable to provide the team of health care professionals that can effectively engineer lifestyle changes in their patients, because health systems fail to provide sufficient compensation.”

Diabetes the American epidemic sounds scary, well it gets worse. Doctors are using increasing levels of oral diabetes drugs and finally, insulin for their treatment for diabetes. Medication is not the answer for type 2 diabetes. It doesn’t help the real cause-it simply makes it worse, and it adds a slew of serious side effects. The root cause of type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance. In 1981, a researcher by the name of Dr. Jenkins introduced this new concept in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. This new concept is called the Glycemic Index and it explains why the body becomes insulin resistant. The Glycemic Index is simply a numerical system that rates how fast carbohydrate foods break down into glucose and enter the bloodstream. If they enter the bloodstream to fast they spike the insulin. Over time you’ll become resistant to your own insulin. When that happens your body hangs on to fat, like a sponge hangs on to water. This pattern must be reversed in order to prevent diabetes! It’s the cause of 90 percent of diabetes cases. This syndrome is what triggers your blood sugar and your weight to rise. Insulin resistance is virtually ignored by conventional medicine, and its why so many people with type 2 diabetes continue to get worse instead of better.

A grave effort is being made over and over again by conventional doctors. People with type 2 diabetes are insulin resistant, not insulin deficient. Think about this, what good will it do, to pump more insulin into your body, when your body can’t do anything with it!
